From March 9 to 11, 2007, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield hosted the Special Olympics Provincial Winter Games under the theme “My sport, my passion, my victories”. This great sporting event brought together 370 athletes with an intellectual disability from Québec’s 17 regions as well as the regional delegations’ 160 coaches and volunteers and some 200 additional volunteers from the organizing committee presided over by Ms. Danielle Sarrazin. Mr. Michel Choinière, Canadian Tire associate dealer in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, was the honorary president of these Games.
The city of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield was transformed, for the occasion, into an Olympic village and held competitions in Special Olympics Québec’s (SOQ) 7 official winter sports.
These provincial games are a major event which lead to the selection of the athletes and volunteers making up Team Québec for the 2008 National Winter Games in Québec City.
We thank the people of Valleyfield as well as the athletes’ parents, friends and supporters for their unfailing support of Special Olympics athletes.
